সংক্ষিপ্ত বিবরণ
A registered trade mark protects your brand name, logo, or slogan. Registration gives you the exclusive right to use the mark in the UK for the goods and services you specify, and the right to take legal action against anyone who uses it without permission. Applications are made to the Intellectual Property Office (IPO).
ধাপে ধাপে প্রক্রিয়া
Check Your Mark is Registrable
Your mark must be distinctive and not descriptive of your goods/services. Search the IPO trade marks register and Companies House to check for conflicts. Consider a professional clearance search.
- Generic or purely descriptive words cannot be registered
- Check all relevant classes of goods/services
Apply Online
File your application at the IPO website. You will need to specify the mark, the goods/services (classified under the Nice Classification), and pay the fee.
- Filing in one class costs £170 online; each additional class costs £50
Examination
An IPO examiner checks the application meets legal requirements and searches for conflicting earlier marks. If there are objections, you will receive an examination report and have an opportunity to respond.
Publication and Opposition
If accepted, the mark is published in the Trade Marks Journal for 2 months. Anyone can oppose registration during this period.
Registration
If no opposition is filed (or opposition fails), the mark is registered. You will receive a certificate of registration. Registration lasts 10 years and is renewable.

গুরুত্বপূর্ণ সতর্কতা
An unregistered trade mark has limited protection — registration gives much stronger rights.
Use the ® symbol only after registration; use ™ before registration.
Monitor for infringement — the IPO does not police use of your mark.
