Who uses this form

Claimants who have received an admission from the defendant (N9A) or where the defendant has not responded within the permitted time (default judgment).

When to use it

Use to request judgment by default when the defendant has not filed a defence or acknowledgment of service after 14 days. Also use to accept or reject a defendant's admission or payment proposal.

Where to file

File at the court that issued the claim form.

Court fee

Free.

Common mistakes to avoid

Requesting default judgment before the 14-day response deadline has expired

Not including the correct daily rate of interest when claiming contractual or statutory interest

Rejecting a defendant's admission without checking whether the instalment offer is reasonable — the court may impose the defendant's terms if they are reasonable

Not specifying whether you want judgment for the full amount or only the admitted part
