Deposit Dispute Router
Identify which tenancy deposit scheme holds your deposit and get step-by-step guidance on disputing deductions or recovering an unprotected deposit in England & Wales.
Important: This tool provides general guidance only and does not constitute legal advice. Limitation periods and legal deadlines are strictly enforced — missing them can permanently bar your claim. Always verify key dates with a qualified solicitor before relying on this output. Laws and court fee scales change; confirm current figures on the relevant official government website.
When to use this tool
Use when your landlord has made deductions you disagree with, has failed to return your deposit, or you suspect your deposit was never protected. In England & Wales all deposits on assured shorthold tenancies must be protected in a government-approved scheme within 30 days. Failure to protect entitles you to between one and three times the deposit amount as a penalty.
