Divorce Route Tool
Determine whether to apply for sole or joint divorce, get a realistic timeline (26-week minimum under the no-fault divorce procedure), and understand the costs involved.
Important: This tool provides general guidance only and does not constitute legal advice. Limitation periods and legal deadlines are strictly enforced — missing them can permanently bar your claim. Always verify key dates with a qualified solicitor before relying on this output. Laws and court fee scales change; confirm current figures on the relevant official government website.
When to use this tool
Use when you are considering or beginning divorce proceedings in England & Wales. Since 6 April 2022 the sole ground for divorce is irretrievable breakdown — you no longer need to prove fault. The minimum 26-week timeline is built into the procedure by law and cannot be shortened.
