The official Civil Procedure Rules glossary defines it simply: an injunction is 'a court order prohibiting a person from doing something or requiring a person to do something.'
One well-known family law example is the non-molestation injunction: an order made under section 42 of the Family Law Act 1996 to stop someone from molesting an associated person, on which the President of the Family Division has issued dedicated Practice Guidance covering the practical and procedural aspects of applications.
