Ofgem

The Office of Gas and Electricity Markets. The independent energy regulator for Great Britain, responsible for protecting consumer interests, promoting competition, and regulating network companies.

Ofgem — the Office of Gas and Electricity Markets — regulates the monopoly companies which run the gas and electricity networks. It is a non-ministerial government department.

Ofgem takes decisions on price controls and enforcement, acting in the interests of consumers and helping the energy industries achieve environmental improvements. Its functions include setting the domestic energy price cap and overseeing schemes such as the Smart Export Guarantee.
