Section 181A — Information for bus passengers

(1) [F1 The Secretary of State may, for the purpose of facilitating travel by disabled persons, make regulations requiring operators of local services to make available information about a local service to persons travelling on the service.]

(2) [F1 The regulations may make provision about—]

(a) [F1 the descriptions of information that are to be made available;]

(b) [F1 how information is to be made available.]

(3) [F1 The regulations may, in particular, require an operator of a local service to make available information of a prescribed description about—]

(a) [F1 the name or other designation of the local service;]

(b) [F1 the direction of travel;]

(c) [F1 stopping places;]

(d) [F1 diversions;]

(e) [F1 connecting local services.]

(4) [F1 The regulations may, in particular—]

(a) [F1 specify when information of a prescribed description is to be made available;]

(b) [F1 specify how information of a prescribed description is to be made available, including requiring information to be both announced and displayed;]

(c) [F1 specify standards for the provision of information, including standards based on an announcement being audible or a display being visible to a person of a prescribed description in a prescribed location;]

(d) [F1 specify forms of communication that are not to be regarded as satisfying a requirement to make information available.]

(5) [F1 Regulations under this section may make different provision—]

(a) [F1 as respects different descriptions of vehicle;]

(b) [F1 as respects the same description of vehicle in different circumstances.]

(6) [F1 Before making regulations under this section, the Secretary of State must consult—]

(a) [F1 the Welsh Ministers;]

(b) [F1 the Scottish Ministers.]
