CCJ Set-Aside Eligibility Checker

A decision-tree tool to assess whether you are likely to be eligible to apply to set aside a County Court Judgment (CCJ) entered in default under CPR Part 13.

Eligibility / route checker โ€” indicative result

This tool gives an indicative direction based on the information you provide. It is not a determination of your legal position. Many factors (evidence, jurisdiction, deadlines) can change the outcome. Always confirm with a regulated adviser before relying on this result.

Privacy: runs entirely in your browser. Nothing you enter is sent to us or saved.

When to use this tool

Use as soon as you discover that a CCJ has been entered against you without your knowledge or that you failed to file a defence in time. The sooner you act the better โ€” courts are more sympathetic to prompt set-aside applications. This checker helps you understand whether you meet the CPR r.13 criteria before paying the application fee.

Step 1 of 4: Type of Judgment

Was the CCJ entered as a default judgment โ€” i.e., because you did not file an acknowledgement of service or a defence within the permitted time?

If you are unsure, check the judgment order: default judgments say "Judgment in Default of [Acknowledgement of Service / Defence]". Judgments after a hearing will refer to the hearing date.
